We watch Jaws every Fourth of July, it’s a tradition. Watching Richard Dreyfuss reminded me of how huge he was in the 70s, and how his career petered out in the 80s.

Why? How could such a rise come to such an abrupt halt?

What R1 said and also he was an enormous asshole who burned a lot of bridges.

I’ve always heard stories he was difficult to work with. I liked him in Spielberg’s pictures, but there’s glimpses of arrogance that come through in his characters.

Cause Broadway doesn't go for booze and dope.

Oh man r1 with the one word that explains so much about the 80s.

But wasn’t cocaine endemic at that time? Or was it just that he went deeper into addiction than others?

We've discussed his beautiful son, Walleye, on here before.

Did he ever have an affair? Just kidding.

He burned himself out with drugs and alcohol. He was high on cocaine during the filming if "Whose Life Is It Anyway". Try watching it sometime. It's so obvious.

He was on a lot of drugs, annoyed many people, and was generally difficult to deal with.

Wasn’t he fired from All That Jazz because of his coke problem? Or combined with his huge ego post Oscar win? He was still getting mainstream projects during this time, but it wasn’t until Down and Out in Beverly Hills he had a hit film in the mid 80s.

Spielberg wanted Dreyfuss to play Dr. Alan Grant in JURASSIC PARK -- Dreyfuss was Spielberg's first choice -- but Dreyfuss wanted too much money and the part went to Sam Neill instead.

Not a very bright person.

His recent Bill Maher appearance was very bizarre and disturbing
