What is the difference between DL/Reddit/Discord?

All I know is DL. What are the other sites like. What is better there than on DL?

Reddit is much larger than DL. It seems more global, and the users skew younger. In popular subreddits the community demonstrates a homogenous worldview, and users chase "up votes" with their posts and comments. The content includes lots of inane memes and reposts of "clever" tweets from Twitter and videos from TikTok. Violent videos, including animal cruelty, regularly surface on the front page alongside posts about Star Wars and news items. The niche subreddits are more tolerable if you stick to the ones that align with your own interests.

Discord is more like modern chat rooms. I am not as familiar.

DL is a gay forum. That's the difference.

I feel more comfortable here on DL. There isn't as much cruelty here, just bitchiness, which I can handle.

Datalounge is a forum of people who are part of a community out there as a social group. It is only one way in which this community expresses itself and its interests.

Like, we are also members of political lobbying groups to advance our community's rights and well being, or forms of entertainment and fashion. Discord and reddit do not.

Discord is IRC for Gen Z. Reddit and Datalounge are both glorified forums, one for autistic straight men and one for outcast bottoms.

I've never been on Discord. Reddit is generally for youngish men who are trying to be clever, but often come off as shallow. DL is a gay/lesbian forum with some straight women.

Even in the smaller ones it's obnoxious how easily you can get downvoted for not having the exact same opinion as everyone else.

Some channels are better than others and it can be hard to keep up with what everyone is saying. Really depends on what topics you're into.

R9 hits the nail on the thread. If you frequent the entertainments subs, you’ll run into a lot of threads about spectrum robots having inappropriate emotional reactions like compulsively sobbing over episodes of Nathan Fielder shows or talking about how they laughed so hard they blacked out over some throwaway joke on Rick and Morty.

If you have nuanced views, stay away. Reddit is all about black and white. If you like it, it’s the greatest thing of all time. If not, it’s the worst thing in history.

It gets quite boring after a while because you want to engage with people who didn’t stop developing emotionally at age 14.
