Children should wear shorts. I don't give a shit what TF says.

by Anonymousreply 1December 2, 2021 12:44 AM

I loved Tom Ford but now I think he is a mean asshole about the light-up dinosaur shoes. What a dick. That poor kid.

by Anonymousreply 2December 2, 2021 12:51 AM

I can't wait to read, "Daddy Dearest" by Jack Ford.

by Anonymousreply 3December 2, 2021 12:56 AM

Kid’s living on easy street.

by Anonymousreply 4December 2, 2021 12:57 AM

He's trying to teach his son how to not be a slob.

Good for him.

by Anonymousreply 5December 2, 2021 1:17 AM

R5 Shorts do not equal slob. Have you never seen Winnie the Pooh? Christopher Robin always wears shorts, with out looking like a slob. Prince George has worn shorts, in fact it is the school uniform for many prestigious schools, in the younger grades.

by Anonymousreply 6December 2, 2021 1:29 AM

He's mean and I hope he is reading this.

by Anonymousreply 7December 2, 2021 1:36 AM

Yeah, I don’t get it, R6. My English dad wasn’t allowed to wear long trousers to school until he was twelve.

by Anonymousreply 8December 2, 2021 2:15 AM

R8 Maybe its the Texas Cowboy in him? The only people I know where the boys don't seem to ever wear shorts are people I would call redneck cowboys, they are where the venn diagram of rednecks and cowboys converge. They wore jeans even when it was 100+/F.

by Anonymousreply 9December 2, 2021 2:25 AM

Tom Ford hasn't figured out that his son is a human being, and not a dress up doll. Jack already resents him for this, and it will only continue to get worse over time.

by Anonymousreply 11December 2, 2021 2:30 AM

R11 He just needs to tone it down a bit. My mama dressed me like a modern Little Lord Fauntleroy doll for most of my childhood, but not all the time. Just when we had somewhere nice to go or church. I grew up to dress Southern Preppy though there is a little Nashvegas in me when I dress for a party. I was constantly voted best dressed by various peer groups.

by Anonymousreply 12December 2, 2021 2:41 AM

R12 what does Nashvegas style mean? Google wasn't helpful.

by Anonymousreply 13December 2, 2021 2:50 AM

R13 It is a mashup of Nashville and Vegas, basically I can get a little flashy, if the situation is appropriate.

by Anonymousreply 14December 2, 2021 2:53 AM

R11 nailed it: Tom is taking the "you're my child, hence a reflection of me" attitude to extremes. I'll wager good money that Jack will rarely, at best, ever feel handsome or satisfied with what he's wearing.

by Anonymousreply 15December 2, 2021 2:54 AM

Telling a kid they aren't allowed to wear shorts is silly and barbaric.

by Anonymousreply 16December 2, 2021 2:55 AM

I never wore shorts to school or light up dinosaur shoes and I grew up to be trendy and stylish

by Anonymousreply 17December 2, 2021 2:56 AM

Nobody is going to talk about those sunglasses??

by Anonymousreply 18December 2, 2021 3:48 AM

Ford isn't being "mean." That's the wrong word.

He's being too strict. And probably very unreasonable.

But I wouldn't call it mean.

by Anonymousreply 19December 2, 2021 3:49 AM

It sounds like his kid's going to be a little bitch.

by Anonymousreply 20December 2, 2021 3:55 AM

Real life footage of the Ford home, if you replace wire hanger with shorts.

[quote] Ford isn't being "mean." That's the wrong word.

That depends upon which definition one is using. It is not miserly, since he is most certainly buying expensive garments for his child. But, I think it could fall under the "unkind, spiteful, or unfair," definition.

by Anonymousreply 22December 2, 2021 4:32 AM

Where's the lie, R4 & R21?

by Anonymousreply 23December 3, 2021 1:56 PM

The kid will go wild when he’s a teenager. That shit works when they are little but good luck once he goes through puberty. The kid will wear whatever the fuck he wants. Especially since TF will be approaching 70. Please.

I bet the kid misses the dad who died. You would think wearing dinosaur shoes and shorts wouldn’t be such a big deal after one of his parents died of cancer. Great priorities.

by Anonymousreply 24December 3, 2021 2:03 PM

He sounds like an asshole. This kid is going to end up with a face tattoo and blue hair as soon as it gets away from daddy.

by Anonymousreply 25December 3, 2021 2:07 PM

[quote]The kid will go wild when he’s a teenager.

Could someone give me his number?

by Anonymousreply 26December 3, 2021 2:12 PM

Wouldn't he want the child to be creative? Isn't he restricting that?

by Anonymousreply 28December 3, 2021 2:41 PM

I just read the actual quotes - they aren't that bad. It's possible he wasn't being that serious about this and was just chatting with the interviewer ("ugh shorts! graphic t-shirts!") and the magazine ran with it.

He seems like a pretty involved parent and he doesn't plaster his kid all over social media like an accessory who can generate sponsored content (i.e. NPH and his poor dead-eyed twins), so honestly, whatever. He and the late husband waited a long time to have this one child, so it seems like something they really wanted.

Very sad for the kid losing the other father. Hopefully TF lives to be very old.

by Anonymousreply 29December 3, 2021 2:50 PM

Tom Ford must have grown up impoverished if he’s putting his slum prudery out on the street like this.

by Anonymousreply 30December 3, 2021 2:53 PM

Daddy Dearest, indeed! Does he also have to eat rare meat at the table even if he doesn't want it?

Fix Daddy a drink, Jack, and fetch my hyaluronic acid depuffing eye pads.

by Anonymousreply 31December 3, 2021 3:02 PM

Do any of you seriously think Ford gets up in the AM to get the kid off to school versus the nanny, housekeeper or some other hired staffer?

And telling the kid the dinosaur shoes he thinks are the coolest things in the world are "tacky" is fucked up. The kid has zero idea what "tacky" mean, he just knows that Remaining Dad disapproves of the shoes and therefore him.

I will 100% guarantee you too that Remaining Dad gets completely bent out of shape when the kid actually plays in his fancy clothes and gets them dirty and messy and massive hissing ensues.

by Anonymousreply 32December 3, 2021 6:01 PM

I love Tom Ford and this is a very old interview.

The dinosaur shoes are not allowed during the week but are allowed on weekends.

Tom Ford said that he has a very hard time with children's toys and at first tried to buy the kid color neutral, aesthetically pleasing toys, but relented and let him have all the bright plastic shit normal kids have. He just can't see it eyesight

Yes, I'm sure Jack will rebel. I saw in another interview where TF said that he can see them butting heads in the future and his son already likes pushing his buttons.

It will be interesting to see how it all goes. It doesn't seem like Anna Wintour's kids have acted out. One is a dorky married MD in his thirties and her daughter seems to be low profile other than the galas. I remember the daughter saying she hated fashion and would never work for Vogue.

by Anonymousreply 33December 3, 2021 11:16 PM

[quote] I never wore shorts to school or light up dinosaur shoes and I grew up to be trendy and stylish

I'm sorry to tell you you're not the believable judge as to whether or not you're stylish.

by Anonymousreply 34December 3, 2021 11:20 PM

[quote] It doesn't seem like Anna Wintour's kids have acted out.

It helps to have kept them in small cages for most of their childhoods.

by Anonymousreply 35December 3, 2021 11:21 PM

It also helps that she was in her 30s when they were kids AND the father was around

by Anonymousreply 36December 4, 2021 12:20 AM

[quote] this is a very old interview.

Given that his husband died fairly recently, how old can it be?

[quote] The dinosaur shoes are not allowed during the week but are allowed on weekends.

Still a dick move--imposing his needs and wants on his kid, sending the message that fun is bad

by Anonymousreply 37December 4, 2021 12:22 AM

[quote]It helps to have kept them in small cages for most of their childhoods.

Had I only known.

by Anonymousreply 38December 4, 2021 12:39 AM

[quote] And telling the kid the dinosaur shoes he thinks are the coolest things in the world are "tacky" is fucked up. The kid has zero idea what "tacky" mean,

That's not entirely true, I learned what was tacky almost as soon as I learned to talk.

by Anonymousreply 39December 4, 2021 12:52 AM

Odds are that the boy is one of the 98% of children who is not gay from birth R39

by Anonymousreply 40December 4, 2021 12:56 AM

R39 I'm bi, but my mother made it very clear to teach me what was tacky and what wasn't.

by Anonymousreply 41December 4, 2021 12:58 AM

R42 Then hop off and fuck like a bunny.

by Anonymousreply 44December 4, 2021 1:05 AM

Why are bisexual men on a gay site?

They don’t understand gay culture.

by Anonymousreply 45December 4, 2021 1:15 AM

Tom Ford takes 4 baths a day. I seriously doubt he is going to have to do much heavy lifting with or without the husband. He said he used to be nude all the time but had to start wearing clothes once he had a kid because the nanny's room is down the hall.

by Anonymousreply 46December 4, 2021 4:26 AM

Once puberty hits, I will happily help Jack select a jockstrap.

by Anonymousreply 47December 4, 2021 5:07 AM

Jack is a child, not a robot.
