How have we not discussed this already? Hapless professor gets scammed by transwoman and partner. Hilarious and insane.

I read the article and found him very naive, desperate and stupid. The woman didn't even try to pull some extraordinary trick on him. Maybe his cocooned life has made him so gullible since scams such as this are in the news everyday.

by Anonymousreply 2July 25, 2019 11:35 AM

Moving all their furniture into his house while he and his family were away was the most incredible part of that story.

by Anonymousreply 3July 25, 2019 11:41 AM

Per the article, Hay refused to have a paternity test, because "he felt it would have been insulting for a heterosexual cisgender man to question a professed lesbian as to whether she'd had sex with other men"

by Anonymousreply 4July 25, 2019 12:30 PM

He went to my high school--he himself says he might be on the spectrum. I suspect that's true, was never diagnosed (he's 53--a few years younger than me), but always excelled at academic topics, and has enough self-awareness to realize after the fact that his lack of ability to read people was his downfall. (Not all people on the spectrum have "mind-blindness"--that was Simon Baron-Cohen's largely discredited theory--but many have difficulty with social scripts and interpretation--doesn't mean that they don't have libidos). The really disturbed ones are the French "lesbian" (whose father was the Mort Shuman responsible for inflicting Jacques Brel on the American public and for gay men having to sit through endless renditions by Barbara Cook-wannabes at piano bars--they have her girth but none of her talent--doing yet another tuneless and charmless version of "Carousel"--"we're on a carouself, a crazy carousel" and "If We Only Have Love") and the trans mother (as she calls herself) who looks like every girls PE teacher from hell.

by Anonymousreply 5July 25, 2019 4:17 PM

Reading this story triggered a migraine, and reaffirmed my skepticism in the viability of the human race. I'm going to nap with my dog.

by Anonymousreply 6July 25, 2019 4:23 PM

Am I the only one who lost interest in the story and just couldn't finish it? Can someone summarize it for me? I gave up when she told him she was pregnant.

by Anonymousreply 7July 25, 2019 4:33 PM

[quote]Per the article, Hay refused to have a paternity test, because "he felt it would have been insulting for a heterosexual cisgender man to question a professed lesbian as to whether she'd had sex with other men"

Only a gullible fool would NOT ask for a paternity test.

Holy shit.

I find these stories fascinating.

It is truly ignore-worthy. If only...

by Anonymousreply 10July 25, 2019 4:57 PM

Did he ever confirm if the kid was his?

Someone please make a podcast series of this supremely fucked up story!

by Anonymousreply 11July 25, 2019 5:05 PM

As one commenter asks? Why do none of these men ejaculate? And if they don’t, why are they believing they got a woman pregnant? I’m cracking up.

by Anonymousreply 12July 25, 2019 5:08 PM

Also: Hell hath no fury. Women are dangerous in a whole different way.

by Anonymousreply 13July 25, 2019 5:09 PM

Fascinating.

It would make a great mini-series but I doubt anyone will touch it in this SJW climate. The hero in this story is the cisgender straight frau.

by Anonymousreply 14July 25, 2019 6:36 PM

Uh.. first o fall, who in their right mind would ever turn over their email password to anyone?

Is he paying child support? If so, how can they deny him a paternity test?

by Anonymousreply 15July 25, 2019 6:56 PM

What a stupid, stupid man.

by Anonymousreply 16July 25, 2019 7:06 PM

Any photos of Schuman or Haider?

by Anonymousreply 17July 25, 2019 7:40 PM

Hay was done in by his own liberalism.

by Anonymousreply 21July 25, 2019 8:13 PM

I love this story because it highlights the different types of intelligence. A Harvard professor can’t be a stupid man. But two people with street smarts conned him out of everything.

And, honestly, being able to “read” and “work” people is a much more valuable ability than a steamer trunk full of advanced degrees.

by Anonymousreply 22July 25, 2019 8:21 PM

R20, some comments at the article question the actual paternity of the child in question. Some speculate it is Haider’s. That was literally the only time I gasped while reading about this. Can you imagine?

by Anonymousreply 23July 25, 2019 8:22 PM

I love how it doesn't seem to occur to anyone in this story that the baby's father might just be the person with a penis who she's married to.

by Anonymousreply 24July 25, 2019 8:23 PM

R23, now that you say it, it seems as though it could be very, very plausible.

by Anonymousreply 25July 25, 2019 8:24 PM

R23 and R25? Really? That was the first thing I thought. The baby's father is obviously the trans woman.

by Anonymousreply 26July 25, 2019 8:31 PM

These people are psychotic. Why nobody has prosecuted them much more harshly is a wonder.

by Anonymousreply 29July 25, 2019 8:42 PM

Agreed, R29. It's telling that all the other men that these two psycho grifters tried to reel in hired lawyers and got restraining orders within months, not after three years.

That move with the house was unbelievable. And they produced a two-year lease charging $1500 a month for a house like that??? Avon Hill is one of the best neighborhoods in Cambridge. The Zillow rent estimate is $11,500.

I'm a bit confused. Is Shuman actually the daughter of a famous songwriter or was that another lie?

by Anonymousreply 31July 25, 2019 9:53 PM

Shuman does have a daughter named Maria-Pia. Don't know if that's really her.

by Anonymousreply 32July 25, 2019 10:02 PM

There are some personalities that are very compelling and almost mesmerizing, and sometimes you can feel as though you had been hypnotized after being in their presence. I've encountered a few of those sociopaths in my time, and it was like being drugged.

Literal violence. Tsk tsk.

by Anonymousreply 35July 25, 2019 10:13 PM

^^ sorry, r31. That was for r27.

But photos when you google “Maria-Pia Shuman” are of a much older woman. As other point out, the author doesn’t investigate Shuman’s parented identity.

by Anonymousreply 36July 25, 2019 10:17 PM

R36, you have to assume that she’s lying about her parentage too. I doubt that’s her real name.

by Anonymousreply 38July 25, 2019 10:58 PM

by Anonymousreply 39July 25, 2019 10:59 PM

I thought this was hilarious. What they're accused of doing, but this guy is so incredibly stupid that he kind of had it coming.

by Anonymousreply 42July 26, 2019 1:30 AM

I've had friends who have been victims of con jobs before, and they're not stupid people. They're usually good people who become exploited for their kind hearts. I

These two people--the woman and her trannie partner in crime--are clearly monsters. they still refuse to have the child subjected to a paternity test, and they have lied about other things in the past. It's extremely likely they're eventually going to go down for this, unless they somehow stay ahead of the law. But they sound like Sante Kimes and her son--genuinely cruel and sociopathic.

by Anonymousreply 43July 26, 2019 1:31 AM

Whether or not the guy had it coming, the ex-wife and their child did not, and the lesbian and the trans woman still broke the law and treated them really badly too.

by Anonymousreply 44July 26, 2019 1:32 AM

The transexual writes for Huffington Post and is a graduate student at Harvard. That's a relatively powerful person. I hope they serve prison terms. But as sociopaths they will come out and pull another con.

by Anonymousreply 45July 26, 2019 1:43 AM

R45 anyone can write for the Huffington Post. Seriously. They'll accept submissions from anyone.

by Anonymousreply 46July 26, 2019 1:51 AM

Wow, thanks OP. That was indeed a fascinating story one that should make all of us feel better about our own lives and decisions.

I'm also baffled by why Hay and the ex-wife Zacks, both of whom made very good salaries, chose to live together and forego sex with anyone when they could have just lived near each other like very other divorced couple in America.

So you have that pathology on top of the these two insane women, who are clearly commenting on the New York magazine article claiming the report is "one sided" (as if there were two sides once the fact that there were not one, not two, but three other similar instances where the duo pulled the same trick.)

And the reason for the two Mia-Pias, (I googled it) is that Mia Pia and her mother, Mia Pia, have the same name and the photos you are finding are probably the mother.

DL's paucity of empathy for a man with a probable social disability is disheartening, if not totally surprising.

by Anonymousreply 49July 26, 2019 2:39 AM

If you're able to function well enough in society that you become a Harvard Law professor, a wife and kids, then no, I don't have much sympathy for your "social disability." Where this guy went wrong was in spending so much time with the tranny. They were together every day at Darwin's talking about god knows what. It wasn't just that he had sex with the woman, he got super involved in their lives. He's an idiot but I don't think it helps to chalk it up to some illness or retard gene.

by Anonymousreply 50July 26, 2019 2:42 AM

* and have a wife and kids

by Anonymousreply 51July 26, 2019 2:42 AM

[quote]I'm also baffled by why Hay and the ex-wife Zacks, both of whom made very good salaries, chose to live together and forego sex with anyone when they could have just lived near each other like very other divorced couple in America.

She's 56 now. So she gets a divorce but doesn't find anyone else she likes, Her bio clock is ticking so she opts to hook back up with ex who has a good job, isn't a drunk, doesn't hit her and wants kids. She just chooses this time not to marry him. He's a good father, why not keep him around? Why give up the great house in a competitive housing market and a good school district? Just lay down some boundaries.

by Anonymousreply 52July 26, 2019 2:53 AM

Some people, if they don't absolutely hate their ex, choose to have unconventional living arrangements (like living together) because they believe it helps their kids be better adjusted (it doesn't).

by Anonymousreply 53July 26, 2019 2:55 AM

[quote] Why give up the great house in a competitive housing market and a good school district?

That's someone else's life R52

They had already split up once and he'd moved out so unclear who the house belonged to, but she made enough, according to the story, to keep it on her own.

They were clearly fucking when he moved back in because two kids.

When they stopped fucking and agreed to just be roommates, was when she should have moved out. She made enough to stay in Cambridge, probably in the same house.

And since it's Cambridge, the kids probably went to private school, which again she was likely already paying half of and would keep on paying half of.

Something was off.

by Anonymousreply 54July 26, 2019 3:03 AM

They are sadistic. If this guy committed suicide they wouldn’t care. The tranny husband is a psycho. The faux dyke is disgusting. I hope this teacher stands up to these criminals and they wind up in jail where they both belong. The tranny should be in a mental hospital.

This should be a movie.

by Anonymousreply 55July 26, 2019 3:04 AM

The house belonged to both of them. She talked him into signing off of the deed.Said so directly in the article. Great private schools in Cambridge as well as some excellent public schools.

Clearly the house is/was a focus of all the relationships. Certainly the con-artists coveted it. It's a great asset. And both Zacks and Hay chose to live in it together. Zacks was in her 40's when she let Hays back home. She settled.

by Anonymousreply 56July 26, 2019 3:19 AM

No, it should not R55, nobody cares about some aspie horndog gets conned by the pussy prospect. It happens all the time.

by Anonymousreply 57July 26, 2019 3:20 AM

R57 I'm not r55 but I disagree. I think it would be a quite gripping lifetime movie. Valerie Bertinelli can play the suspicious ex wife

by Anonymousreply 58July 26, 2019 4:37 AM

Has it been established that the tranny was really a Harvard Ph.D. physics student? It boggles my mind that someone that accomplished would resort to grifting.

by Anonymousreply 59July 26, 2019 6:56 AM

I know of a couple who have shared similar living arrangements for as long a time frame as the prof and his ex-wife. They are more than a bit odd, compared to other divorced couples. I agree with the poster upthread that such living arrangements are not in the children's best interest ultimately. Children need boundaries, structure, and a recognition of an official status when it comes to their parents' relationship, otherwise they nurse false hope that their parents eventually shall re-marry. This could very well be the best Lifetime flick!

by Anonymousreply 60July 26, 2019 8:22 AM

Yeah, the part about the wife (Zacks) and this guy Hay still living together was depressing. Hay said he thought he and Zacks had a "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" agreement. Surprise, Zacks somehow thought they were monogamous.

by Anonymousreply 61July 26, 2019 8:32 AM

The lesbian and the trans would be great characters on OITNB

by Anonymousreply 62July 26, 2019 11:18 AM

R60 it also gives kids a fucked up idea about what their relationships should be like when they get older. They'll either stay in abusive or unhappy relationships because they'll think they're supposed to our veer in the complete opposite direction and never have a stable relationship... but one thing's certain, they most likely won't have a well-adjusted one without years of therapy.

by Anonymousreply 63July 26, 2019 2:01 PM

There's definitely enough material here for a Netflix series or a multi-part podcast. One episode needs to cover how Shuman and Haider met, and how they started running their scams.

by Anonymousreply 64July 26, 2019 2:19 PM

And what their ultimate goal was R64, since the scams never seemed to pan out, nor did they seem to actually lack money.

by Anonymousreply 65July 26, 2019 2:31 PM

This is like real life "M. Butterfly".

by Anonymousreply 66July 26, 2019 2:37 PM

For the Netflix series, I think Elizabeth Reaser would be perfect for Maria-Pia Shuman. I'm not that sure about Bruce Hay, but maybe Bill Hader would be good. And casting Mischa Haider would be even tougher. Maybe Daniel Franzese?

by Anonymousreply 67July 26, 2019 2:44 PM

R67. Airy Bryant could play Haider or DL fave Chrissy Metx

by Anonymousreply 68July 26, 2019 2:49 PM

Good choices, r68. Going by just Haider's photo, it's tough to say whether a cis male or female would be better for the part. Or maybe there's a trans actor that would be perfect?

by Anonymousreply 70July 26, 2019 3:05 PM

[quote] The transexual writes for Huffington Post and is a graduate student at Harvard. That's a relatively powerful person.

"Graduate student at Harvard" is not a powerful position. Undergraduate at Harvard is arguably more powerful.

by Anonymousreply 77July 26, 2019 4:04 PM

This story makes me sick as it seems there will be no justice toward these grifters.

by Anonymousreply 78July 26, 2019 4:39 PM

Maybe R78

But some prosecutor may see the article and decide that it's a great way to make a name for themselves as the media will eat up story as it reads like a made-for-TV movie.

by Anonymousreply 79July 26, 2019 4:44 PM

There’s a lot of money overall in this story. It’s pretty clear that this Hay professor comes from family money. You don’t buy an $895,000 house in 1995 at the age of 32 without a trust fund.

by Anonymousreply 80July 26, 2019 4:50 PM

The two grifters are psychotic. Jesus. And Hay is monumentally stupid.

by Anonymousreply 81July 26, 2019 5:14 PM

If so, was it legal for only his signature to be on the rental papers?

by Anonymousreply 85July 26, 2019 7:33 PM

Some people need a keeper.

by Anonymousreply 86July 26, 2019 7:41 PM

The house was in both their names. Then he tried to get a $500K home equity loan. You bet the bank notified the ex-wife. She nixed the loan and then made him sign off of the deed.

That's what undid the con artists. It wasn't his house to rent. Their lease agreement was bogus mainly because he had no right to lease the house.

by Anonymousreply 87July 26, 2019 7:50 PM

Sorry to break it to you R84 but I think that's been his Harvard bio pic for at least 20 years now. And even 20 years ago, it looked nothing like him - he is pocket-sized and has a rumpled, hesitant manner. It sounds like he's lonely and gullible and these con artists sniffed that out right away. Even though he was unbelievably foolish, I feel really bad for him, especially the partner and their kids.

by Anonymousreply 88July 26, 2019 8:20 PM

I can't imagine coming home from a long stay in Europe only to discover that someone has totally moved into the house that I own, replacing all my own furniture and belongings. In fact, maybe that's where the Netflix series should start, with the ex-wife and kids discovering that their home is no longer their home. What a surreal nightmare! And then the series can flash back to the start of the whole mess, with Shuman seducing Hay.

by Anonymousreply 89July 26, 2019 8:30 PM

Im surprised that these people moved the furniture out and made it accessible to him, rather than just taking it all. That's incredibly bizarre.

by Anonymousreply 90July 26, 2019 8:42 PM

I've known a number of male academics on the spectrum, including one who is rather gullible.

by Anonymousreply 91July 26, 2019 8:45 PM

This grifter couple unfortunately won't be going to jail. Con artists like them rarely go to jail because they do just enough to not get caught, or their victims become so traumatized, demoralized, ashamed, and scared to ever pursue legal justice. Even if grifters do end up being prosecuted, they either serve short sentences or none at all and pay restitutions instead.

My friend's ex-wife was/ is such a grifter who tried to poison him shortly into the marriage. She and her three children from her first marriage lived at my friend's house with his elderly parents for whom he was the caretaker. Beside conning money from them and throwing out all of his belongings while he was out of town, she sexually abused my friend's 90-something year-old father. She did it to falsely claim that the elderly man sexually assaulted HER and was setting up a con to extort more money and take the house away. When my friend started divorce proceedings against her, she filed spousal rape and elder abuse against him without any evidence. Police was even called over to the house just in order to establish a record/ precedence, and going strictly by her accusations my friend had to spend a night in jail and go to court to sort that shit out. He then had to stay away from his own home that his elderly father still lived, because she took out a restraining order against him. My friend had to enlist his nephew to go daily to the home for safety checks on his dad because that cunt was still living there too. Later, the lawyer that my friend hired found out that the Unitarian church going, La Leche League volunteer, mother of three children was a swinger during her first marriage, and who had also sent her first husband to prison on fake abuse charges. She was diagnosed as having sociopathic traits as a teenager, evaluated after trying to murder her own mother at the instigation of her con-artist father with whom she's still close. My friend was so demoralized that he just wanted to get a quickie divorce, no charges was ever brought against her because he felt it would traumatize his frail father. She went on to remarry a professor, of all people, and relocated to the East Coast. She's since layed low but as recently as 3-4 years ago she was pretty active on social media voicing support for Bernie Sanders. Then I'd noticed that when the #MeToo movement gained momentum the cunt's posts stopped, maybe could have something to do with the fact that she sexually abused an elderly man and attempted murder on my friend.

So when I read stories like this, I am not surprised because grifters look for people who are good and more trusting than the rest of us. They're chosen because they can't fathom that there are evil or greedy people in the world who could do awful things just for the hell of it. Monetary gains are but icing on the cake for these sociopaths/ psychopaths who fuck with people's lives. Hay clearly should cop some blame for being so gullible and putting at risk the lives and livelihoods of his own children. But the bulk of the blame should be placed at these two grifters' hands, and I hope the publicity generated from The Cut's profile neutralizes their ability to pull off more cons and ruin more people's lives. Let their faces be shown and shamed publicly, it's the next best thing to have them rot in jail.

by Anonymousreply 92July 26, 2019 8:54 PM

True, r77.

Sucks that they refer to the cons as “women” in The Cut article. One is a woman — the other is not.

Also sucks that the lesbian community is being smeared by this heterosexual con couple. No lesbians in this scenario. Lesbians don’t pick up straight men.

by Anonymousreply 97July 26, 2019 9:53 PM

R33 it is not some magical personality trait, grifters like this play to your ego to reel you in. Some ugly chick “randomly” approached him in a hardware store because he was so irresistible and convinced him that even though she is a lesbian, he is the only man that would make her switch sides. Most rational people would doubt her story from the get go. I was suspect in the beginning when he asked if she spoke French - I’m sure she doesn’t but he saw what he wanted to see.

by Anonymousreply 98July 26, 2019 10:02 PM

[quote] Lesbians don’t pick up straight men.

Actually, lesbians are in the perfect position to pick up and grift straight men. A lesbian would never really fall in love with the man and could keep emotional distance.

Same for gay men being perfect grifters for rich, straight women.

by Anonymousreply 99July 26, 2019 10:55 PM

He’s like that stupid bitch character in horror movies that trips and falls while running from the killer because she keeps looking back and him and them can’t manage to get her key in the lock of the door while fumbling her keys .

by Anonymousreply 105July 26, 2019 11:55 PM

by Anonymousreply 107July 27, 2019 5:41 AM

I do think that people who are fundamentally honest really have trouble believing that there are many many people on this planet who are fundamentally dishonest. I've almost fallen for a number of internet scams because, although they seemed far-fetched, why would someone lie? Sure, my long lost Nigerian uncle left me 43 million dollars. Sure one of my best friends lost his passport in London and needs me to wire him $500 right away. Sure someone using a 15 year old password has hijacked my computer and has recorded me through the video camera on my computer looking at child porn. Luckily I always have a "say what?" moment just before I click on the link.

Grifters have a way of spinning a story so fast that you can quickly get lost in the weeds. None of it makes sense line by line, sentence by sentence, but the flurry and the occasional plausible phrase can suck you in.

Lesbians who grift men, you say?

The lawyer is a strange bird.

He wrote this in a piece in Salon after Anthony Scalia died:

"I am close to one of the victims of his operation, a transgender woman named Mischa Haider, whom I got to know during the course of her work on a Ph.D. in physics at Harvard. She’s an extraordinary polymath — gifted violinist, writer and novelist; fluent speaker of a half-dozen languages; math genius. And physicist. Her intellect would have made our brilliant Justice want to hide his head in a bag, to borrow his charming words from last year’s marriage equality ruling. Those who have any doubt about trans mothers should meet Mischa’s children.

So that is Antonin Scalia’s contribution to physics. To drive a woman with a luminous mind from the study of quantum theory and statistical mechanics and condensed matter, and into the urgent project of safeguarding vulnerable people from the inhumanity he dedicated his life to spreading. An inhumanity that survives as his true legacy, safeguarded by deluded acolytes and admirers.

r108, great post.

I know a guy who I'm certain is on the spectrum. He's also an academic, and also has the spectrum "look." And he is honest to a fault, about things that most other guys would lie about.

One day we were discussing height; I guessed he was 6'4. "No," he replied. "I'm actually closer to 6'2."

How many straight guys lie about their height in the shorter direction??

And he is also incredibly gullible and doesn't have a good sense of when people take advantage of him.

by Anonymousreply 112July 28, 2019 12:30 PM

"How many straight guys lie about their height in the shorter direction??" above should read

"How many straight guys correct guesses about their height in the shorter direction??"

[quote]even though she is a lesbian, he is the only man that would make her switch sides. Most rational people would doubt her story from the get go.

It doesn’t sound so far-fetched to me.

by Anonymousreply 114July 28, 2019 3:02 PM

When I was young (like 21-22) I was stupid and gullible. I let my lesbian drinking buddies hang out and sleep over and on two accessions, I woke up to them riding my cock. I used to be a very hard sleeper. At that age, anything got me erect.

It was profoundly upsetting to find my cock in a vagina, especially a lesbian buddy's with whom I did not initiate sex. That killed those friendships fast and I had to be careful as hell because they easily could have claimed rape.

While I understand there are a lot of people who enjoy sex on the side and random pickups, so I'm not judging that. What I do judge is the complete absence of common sense and protection. If you're having sex on the side, why don't you use a condom? You *always* provide your own condoms in every case. Only a complete idiot has unprotected sex with a partner when still living with someone, regardless of what fantasy he's constructed at home.

The two women took him and his family for a ride. Honestly, he played himself by being a complete idiot Who gives out their computer password? Who gives anyone access to their home and family?

He needs a mental health evaluation. The ex wife was the only one with brains in this story. She got him to retitle the house to her so she could protect the assets. Were I her, I'd put all the assets in her name and put him on a debit card only allowance - if she even allows him near her without supervised visits.

The con women? Sure. They're doing what con women do and both belong in prison. Nobody gets conned unless they willingly participate in the con.

r115 "Dear Penthouse Forum ..."

by Anonymousreply 116July 28, 2019 5:56 PM

That's kind of harsh R115

Con artists have been around forever because they're good at what they do. They find and exploit people's weaknesses.

This guy was living with an ex-wife he wasn't banging and was on hardcore antidepressants (he could barely get it up let alone cum)

So he's clearly been under medical care for mental health issues for a while now--by his own admission he is somewhat (or very) autistic.

by Anonymousreply 117July 28, 2019 5:56 PM

"I let my lesbian drinking buddies hang out and sleep over and on two accessions, I woke up to them riding my cock."

Yep, lesbians just LIVE to creep into men's beds and "ride their cocks." Wasn't there a cock-riding tent at Michfest?

by Anonymousreply 118July 28, 2019 6:26 PM

R116 It was the '70s. Not exactly a period famous for good sense when it came to sex, drugs or alcohol.

by Anonymousreply 121July 29, 2019 12:25 AM

R119 While I may have had a lesbian attached to my penis , I did not marry her. Therefore, I am not Bill di Blasio.

Fun fact: I do eat pizza with a knife and fork in a restaurant. I am still not the peripatetic Bostonian.

by Anonymousreply 122July 29, 2019 12:27 AM

No lesbian ever has ever willingly had sex with a man before?

by Anonymousreply 123July 29, 2019 12:55 AM

"The 'D' was so good, she converted. That's why I changed my name from Warren Wilhelm to Bill "D" Blasio."

by Anonymousreply 124July 29, 2019 1:10 AM

There's a time and place for stories that aren't 200-word USA Today-style outlines, but that thing dragged on... and on... and on.... And I can enjoy a good piece on people who are all somewhere between unappealing and flat-out rancid, but that wore thin.

by Anonymousreply 125July 29, 2019 3:51 AM

Update!

Six other men who were approached by Shuman have come forward. All of them were much shrewder than the Harvard Law professor; most of them immediately sensed that she was a scammer. It also seems obvious that Haider is the one driving this crazy train.

“...After reading the New York story, the friend was reminded of one of their last conversations. “I remember she said, ‘I love corrupting these really Waspy Bostonian guys.’ The impression I got was, if she picked up a guy, told him he was really hot, went back and slept with him and then discarded him, she felt like, ‘I’m in control, I’m so powerful, I used him, I tossed him aside.’ She liked the idea of corrupting what looked like these innocent, nice guys.”

What a toxic human being.

by Anonymousreply 127August 9, 2019 7:45 AM

This story should make a good podcast.

by Anonymousreply 128August 9, 2019 7:23 PM

Is that Haider thing still a student there? I bet now that people know about Haider/ Shuman scam, both of them are shunned like pariahs.

by Anonymousreply 129August 9, 2019 7:48 PM

The woman isn’t a lesbian and the man isn’t trans. The man gets his jollies having her go out and pick up men and lives vicariously through her. Even though she’s ugly, he’s even uglier so he uses her as the bait. They also don’t give a fig about the patriarchy. I can’t believe anyone would fall for her lines, but some people are vain, horny, and easily manipulated.

by Anonymousreply 130August 9, 2019 10:06 PM

This guy fell for a grifter because he wasn’t getting any at home?

Think of all the female and male students who would have ridden his soft dick for a good grade.

by Anonymousreply 132August 10, 2019 1:23 AM

Shit, I know this story hasn't gained much ground nationally but it must have quite a bit of buzz nationally.

Haider is in quite the pickle now. A Title IX challenge in the midst of a PHD candidacy and all this bad publicity. So what does Haider do now, stick around and try to finish the PHD or scram?

Hays did the right thing by going to the press, even with the sanctions from the investigation committee. The rights to the TV or film will be a salve to his broken ego.

by Anonymousreply 133August 10, 2019 2:01 AM

I guess this story just confirms that not everyone at Harvard is smart. Makes me feel better now that I went to Brown instead.

by Anonymousreply 134August 10, 2019 2:30 AM

It's funny how these idiot straight men fell for Shuman because she's not even pretty let alone beautiful. I guess being straightforward in picking up men on the streets and having a French accent work for the straights.

by Anonymousreply 135August 10, 2019 5:05 AM

R135, Shuman/Haider usually approached younger men, who were highly skeptical and wouldn't get involved. They had more luck, as you might expect, with a gullible middle-aged man.

by Anonymousreply 136August 10, 2019 2:47 PM

OMG this is some juicy stuff, I read the articles now to read the comments.....

by Anonymousreply 137August 11, 2019 6:18 AM

Wouldn't the man living with them the kids call "daddy" be their father?

by Anonymousreply 138August 11, 2019 6:26 AM

[quote] Shuman/Haider usually approached younger men, who were highly skeptical and wouldn't get involved.

According to the article at R126, a "Harvard graduate student" (who I assume is younger than the professor) fell for the trick, i.e., had sex with the the "French" lady, who then claimed to be pregnant.

by Anonymousreply 139August 11, 2019 6:37 AM

It has to be beyond exhausting to be that lesbian( or whatever the hell she is) and her partner ( whatever the hell he is)…. With everything that just living your daily life takes out of you, to add these impossible schemes and nefarious plots, with criminal intent to upheave another person life because you covet their dominion, is too exhausting to even entertain. That's why people get taken. Because its impossible to contemplate anyone else sitting around planning to create this kind of chaos in their lives( and yours) where none exist, ….for no reason.... These two are an argument against gun control !

by Anonymousreply 140August 11, 2019 7:39 AM

R140 They have all that free time because they have too much free time and money to plan and execute these plots. A graduate student/ trans-activist and a rich lesbian who obviously don't work for a living. Through confluence of circumstances these two sociopaths found each other and decided to embark on scams for their own enjoyment. I suspect they get psychological high from fucking with people like this. Why Harvard hasn't cut ties with Haider is surprising. I wouldn't want my institution to be associated with criminal sociopaths.

by Anonymousreply 141August 11, 2019 6:47 PM

Straight Frau here. Maybe DL is the only place to ask this question. Why would any man not insist on a paternity test? Harvard, attorney on the spectrum or whatever they sell home paternity tests. "Buy a vowel, get a clue"

by Anonymousreply 142August 11, 2019 8:22 PM

Mr Harvard thought a paternity test would reinforce his patriarchal imperialism.

by Anonymousreply 143August 11, 2019 8:28 PM

Yes R142 dumbass Harvard professor thought asking for a paternity test, one that even his wife had insisted after finding out about it, would be akin to handing back his liberal creds. This is how p.c. culture fucks with people's personal lives, a good example here.

by Anonymousreply 144August 11, 2019 8:42 PM

Frau here. He didn't want to "reinforce his patriarchal imperialism and people ask why I am still single. If supposedly intelligent men are that pathetic it's no wonder I love DL!!!

by Anonymousreply 145August 11, 2019 8:54 PM

Judge Judy always urges unmarried couples who supposedly have a child in common to get a paternity test.

by Anonymousreply 146August 11, 2019 9:09 PM

My sister is a PhD candidate and graduate instructor at an elite college. She now hates sjws (as she should), but it's funny because she's always been an extreme Socialist.

by Anonymousreply 147August 11, 2019 9:20 PM

The prof explained his decision in PC terms, but it really seems that he’s a very submissive person who likes being told what to do. Previously he’d had his smart, confident wife to make his decisions, or so it seems.

by Anonymousreply 148August 11, 2019 9:26 PM
