Not famous cases like the Edmund Fitzgerald but ordinary people. I used to live on a small island and there was a plaque with the names of two young men who left on a sailboat to cross the Pacific. Both had grown up there and they were never heard from again. I always used to go into a deep melancholy when I passed that little plaque. The last pictures of them were so happy.

A tiny little island connected to a mainland by a bridge.

Perry Cohen and Austin Stephanos, from Tequesta, Florida. They were both 14 years old and they told their parents they were going fishing but they told their friends they were going to the Bahamas. The last video they posted on their Snapchat was a storm moving in with them saying, "We're fucked."
Indeed. They disappeared in 2015 and were never found, although the boat and their personal belongings were.

I love the idea but the thought of being in a sailboat in the middle of the ocean scares the shit out of me. If I did it I'd be hugging a coastline.
