I always liked Michelle Pfeiffer and considered her to be one of my favorite actresses. But I realized I only really like her in Grease 2 and Into the Night. Most of her later films since then are Oscar-baiting serious roles that could have been played by Jessica Lange or Susan Sarandon.

Great actress--especially good at comedy. Great in Married to the Mob--no one else could have been as funny at playing good. Stole the show completely in Hairspray: "Miss Baltimore Crabs" may be the weakest song in the score and she turns it into a comic tour de force.

I like her...decent actress and decent looking (overrated in both areas imo) but she’s kind of strange. She’s really been faithfully married to David Kelley for all these years? She kind of dates homely men, no? Is she a secret lez?

Also I never hear about her having any Hollywood friends or anything.. .is she kind of a loner?

It's funny that her role in Grease 2 is downplayed, and never mentioned in any recent interview. But that's how a whole generation of people were introduced to her, and she acted and sang well in it.

She has one of the best nose jobs of any actress, but it's too bad she's hitting the botox and filler these last few years.

Her take on Catwoman has only improved with time. Certainly more memorable than Anne Hathaway's (and I LIKE Annie Hathaway).

She was also the best part of Darren Aronofsky's "mother!" - though perhaps that isn't saying much.

She was the best 'Catwoman'. Also, a good choice for 'To Gillian....', though the script didn't give her much to do. I want to know more about her early days in the cult.

She is, if anything, underrated and has a trail of iconic roles : Elvira Hancock, Selina Kyle, Mme de Tourvel, Countess Olenska (iread here that some people think she was miscast but it is one of her better performances). She is usuay the best thing of the movies she's in. And that she does not play the Hollywood thing much only makes me love her more.

OP, I am sure that Pfeiffer would be thrilled that you listed Grease 2 as one of the only two films that you liked her in. That was a pun correct? The Grease sequel was God-awful. Maxwell Caulfield at the height of his hotness prancing around in tight jeans was the only redeeming aspect. That said, I have liked Pfeiffer in quite a few roles and honestly disliked her in many as well (I hated her acting in Dangerous Liaisons for one - although she was critically acclaimed). White Oleander was particularly amazing - she blew me away in that role. But yes, she was really great in many, many films - I can count at least 10 of the top of my head. Was she overrated (no one really talks about her anymore)? Yes and no - it all depends on the role. Was her beauty overrated? Probably. She has an almost alien appearance about her- very fit and very lovely she has some bizarre facial features IMO.

She was fantastic as Catwoman. And her performance in Dangerous Liaisons is superb - she captures Tourvel's physical fragility but makes her surprisingly stronger as an overall character in her initial responses to Valmont's attempts at seduction. I have never disliked her in anything I've seen, including the ludicrous Dark Shadows (although Helena Bonham Carter and Eva Green do most of the heavy lifting in that mess).

I thought she worked well with Sarandon and Cher in the delightfully dirty-minded "Witches of Eastwick."

Grease 2 may not be a good movie, but she is extremely likeable in it. Her performance is very good and the best thing about it.

There is a drastic difference in charisma level between Michelle and her sister Dee Dee.

There is nothing good about Grease 2. Not even the Pa Feiffer woman. She's a natural blonde and that's about it, in every part she's played. And her husband is a sex addict who has fucked men.

I used to work in the same building that housed talent agency, ICM, so occasionally I'd see some really big stars. Some I'd recognized instantly, others I'd have to be told. So one morning I get into the elevator and just as the doors are about to close, a very disheveled woman stops them so she can get inside. Jeans, wrinkled blouse, no make-up, messed up hair. Obviously just rolled out of bed and is late for an appointment. As she was staring at the numbers ascending, I was able to get a good look at her face. It was Pfeiiffer. And even in that condition, she was stunning!!

You can still like someone as an actor even if it's only in a couple movies.

She acted her ass off in Grease 2. I don't know why she'd be embarrassed by it.

She was magnificent in The Fabulous Baker Boys and also very effective in many of her contemporary roles. I thought she was overrated in her two notable period films, Dangerous Liaisons and The Age of Innocence. I rewatched the former a few days ago and wasn’t particularly impressed with her. (Close and Thurman, on the other hand, were superb.) I kept wondering how Kim Basinger might have done with that role.

The Age of Innocence was ferociously miscast. You needed someone youngish and All-American to play Newland Archer. You needed a blonde icy goddess type to play May, who is often compared to a beautiful statue in the book. You needed someone dark and smoldering to play Ellen Olenska.

Better casting would have been Uma Thurman as May and Juliette Binoche (or her twin Julia Ormond) as Ellen. I'm not sure who would have been right for Archer. Matt Damon is who I always picture, but he would have been about 5-7 years too young to play Newland in the film. But someone like that.

She had an immediacy to her acting before Scarface. In the scene with her and Maxwell Caulfield in Grease 2 at the diner, she is so open and personal. She zones out, and it seems so real.

In every role she feels like a California girl. Sometimes that works well, sometimes it doesn’t.

I prefer her over Julia "Horseteeth" Roberts.

Like her or not, she's always kept it classy.

She should have stopped at the nose job. She didn't need to inject her face with whatever she has.

Her earlier roles were edgier and more interesting.

She is as miscast as Ryder and Day-Lewis in The Age of Innocence (a ravishing film in spite of the miscasting), but she does nail Ellen's mawkishness and tentative nature in the early New York scenes.

She is impeccable. Funny, beautiful, inteligent, modest...can do comedy.

What more could one ask?

Love her. She is at her most lovable in Married to the Mob.

I've always had a somewhat inexplicable aversion to her. I don't like her face, mannerisms, or acting. And I can't quite explain why.

I loved seeing her in Ant Man and Wasp this summer. She’s wonderful. I was so angry when she took a break from acting but glad to she her back on the silverscreen
