Great music. Hot guys. Horrible human beings. Drugs, underaged groupies, black magic and Satanism, smashing up cars, and choking on their own vomit - the ultimate rock bad boys!
So, which one would you have done when they were in their prime?

Robert Plant. No contest.

Did you perhaps mean Led Zeppelin?
All the satanism shit is just that. There is no Satan so any "satanic worship" is just a bunch of people trying to shock and outrage.

They were a lesbian band I loved so much.

It was page that was all into H. P. Lovecraft. I don't think it was the whole band. And I think all the Tolkein was plant.
I got all my brothers albums when he moved out. Which included most of their catalog. I finished it out in high school working at the record store. My friends in college were all faux deadheads I still rocked my zeppelin and Metallica. So when grunge came down the pike I was thrilled.

Lez Zeppelin was actually a real band who released an album about a decade or so ago of all Led Zeppelin songs. And they were fucking amazing.

Not bad, R11. That's a smoking cover.
The original is a rapey band with assholes. Page was especially bad and should be in jail for statutory rape and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Anyone else read that blind item about the three underage groupies? Sick.

Oddly, I'd go for JPJ now. He's like a sexier Bishop (Lance Henriksen) in Aliens 2. Back in the day, Plant of course.

Jimmy Page literally kidnapped little Lori Maddox. She was 14 at time; his goons grabbed her and threw her in a limo and brought her to his hotel room Maddox said one of his goons told her "Jimmy Page is going to have you whether you like it or not!" She was brought to him, and being all of 14 years old, was flattered by his attention and didn't mind that he kidnapped her and took her to his bed while she was still a child. He dumped Pamela Des Barres for her. Later on he dumped little Lori for Bebe Buell. He and Bebe were in a hotel room when little Lori, weeping and heartbroken, pounded on their door, begging him to let her in. He found it all very amusing. Nice guy, huh? In addition to his shenanigans with young girls, he was also a hard core druggie and was a junkie for some time. He's probably lucky to still be alive.
Plant was not much better. He and his wife were involved in a bad car accident. While she was laid up, recovering from her injuries, he went out clubbing. Hobbling on a cain, he caught the Runaway's act. They were the talentless teenage girl band created by Kim Fowley. Plant was photographed smoozing with the nymphets. I wonder how his wife felt about all that?
John Bonham, who everybody loved, was, when drunk, a raving, violent asshole. And he was drunk a LOT. He eventually died from it, getting so drunk he puked down his own throat while unconscious and choked to death on his own vomit.
The only member of Led Zeppelin I never heard awful stories about was John Paul Jones. He married his wife in 1967 and they are still married to this day. It seems like was the only stable one out of the bunch.

'Royal Orleans' on the Presence album is supposedly be about the time John Paul Jones picked up a trans woman and took her to his hotel room. As he put it: “Anyway 'Stephanie' ended up in my room and we rolled a joint or two and I fell asleep and set fire to the hotel room, as you do, ha ha, and when I woke up it was full of firemen!”
But what do you expect, this is the greatest rock band ever in the early 70s not the Royal Ballet Company. (Mind you, they're probably worse, come to think of it.)

I miss the days when rock stars didn't have tattoos.
| by Anonymous | reply 21 | January 6, 2020 10:09 PM |
None of them were attractive to me.
I used to loathe LZ, mostly because their music reminded me of the absolute fucking losers - the incels of their day, back in the late 70s and early 80s - who didn't have jobs and would sit in their basement all day smoking pot or, worse yet, drive around in their windowless vans, pretending they were hot shit, trying to impress and/or pick up younger women.
But in recent years, I've listened to their music without that association and realized that some of it is quite good.

I think the point is that back in the seventies a great many Led Zeppelin fans tended to be drug-addled clods who worshipped them as Gods. I think there's some truth to that.

Jimmy Page was a million kinds of vile human being, but he was hot in his day! Really good-looking guy, and nobody ever deserved good looks less.
And Jesus, R19, how the hell did Page even find people to do that? I mean, how did the job interview go "... and are you willing to facilitate, participate, and cover up the kidnapping and rape of minor children, on the condition that you get sloppy seconds"?

He had a sort of fey Chalamet-esque appeal, but if you took a really good look at him, he wasn't really classically handsome at all. Robert Plant was probably the best-looking but all of them were so obviously unwashed, uncombed and hygienically negligent that fucking them would have been a traumatic experience.

| by Anonymous | reply 35 | January 7, 2020 7:33 AM |
" how the hell did Page even find people to do that?"
Considering the circles he ran in I think it was probably easy. Their road manager for a time was a psycho named Richard Cole. He was there at the "shark" incident, which I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned yet. The legend goes like this: the band was staying at a hotel where you could fish from the hotel windows. A land shark was caught...and was used to fuck a groupie in a bathtub. Cole claimed in his VERY nasty book about his adventures with LZ that it was NOT a shark that was used but a "red snapper." The groupie was a redhead; a red snapper was used to fuck HER red snapper! Ha ha ha! What fun! He claimed that the groupie being fucked with the red snapper enjoyed herself; "she loved it!" Actually, the word was that the groupie involved in the incident was "out of her head" on drugs and had no real understanding of what was being done to her.
Cole was eventually fired. Plant, Page and John Paul Jones all later denounced him. Plant said "These stories would filter out from girls who'd supposedly been in my room when in fact they'd been in his. That sort of atmosphere was being created, and we were quite tired of it. So eventually we relieved him of his position … And in the meantime he got paid a lot of money for talking crap. A lot of the time he wasn't completely …well. And so his view of things was permanently distorted one way or another." Jimmy Page said "There's a book written by our former road manager, Richard Cole that has made me completely ill. I'm so mad about it that I can't even bring myself to read the whole thing. The two bits that I have read are so ridiculously false, that I'm sure if I read the rest I'd be able to sue Cole and the publishers. But it would be so painful to read that it wouldn't be worth it." And John Paul Jones said that Cole's accounts of LZ debauchery are "a mish-mash of several stories put together, usually with the wrong endings and making us look like miserable bastards rather than the funsters we were." Yes, Cole was dreadful. But as bad as he was, Cole was invited to the VIP section of the Led Zeppelin reunion in 2007. I guess they figured he wasn't such a bad guy, after all.

I was not originally a big fan. As a young kid, my taste in music geared more towards black-oriented sounds like Motown, funk, disco, R&B, jazz, and blues. I was very shallow and closed minded concerning what I thought were my musical tastes. It blew my muthafuckin' mind away when I heard old blues great Sonny Boy Williamson II perform Bring It On Home and then listened to Zep's version. It was like an epiphany. I realized that because of my own cultural barriers I couldn't hear the inherent blues in LZ because it was different. Been a big fan ever since.
Anyway, to the OP's point: Plant had a nice bulge and good hair. Back then rock stars didn't need to be Insta Hot to be fuckable.

"Yes, Joan and Lita are genuinely talented musicians. The rest, not so much, but dismissing the group out of hand is just silly."
Oh, come on. They were a novelty act created by the atrocious Kim Fowley who thought a teenage girl band would get guy's dicks hard and make a lot of money. Well, maybe some guys got hard ons watching them do their nymphet act onstage but they never really caught on for the simple reason that musically they were nothing. How could they be? They were 15, 16 year girls for fuck's sake. As for Joan Jett and LIta Ford...well, neither are "genuinely talented musicians." Jett achieved some rock star success but she never was a great musical talent. She played the tough punk rock star chick role very well though. And Ford was just some heavy metal slut act.
There was an infamous article about the Runaways in Crawdaddy magazine by Charles M. Young. Despite his saying during the article that "I'm in love with all five of them (pretty pervy, considering he was at least in his twenties at the time)" the article made them all look like idiots. They were supposedly furious about how they were depicted. But I think the article was probably spot on.
