I’m reading it’s not only that woman’s allegations, but apparently he’s very very difficult to work with. This is why so many are cutting ties with him.

Just know that these big firms don't just drop somebody over "he said / she said" crap, even of the violent type. They deal with that every day no problemo.
There was probably much more going on in Majors life/behaviors that brought this about. This was probably just the last straw causing people to realize the need to get out while the gettin's good.

It surprises me in this day and age that somebody with these issues could rise the way Majors had so fast - his entire career boom has been post-Me-Too I mean, and it makes it clear there really hasn't been much of a reckoning, if people are getting away with being pricks to everybody like this. I'm not even talking about the domestic abuse allegations - you'd think that there would have been some inkling about this before that happened, is all I mean. I was a fan and had heard NOTHING about him being difficult
| by Anonymous | reply 7 | April 18, 2023 2:24 AM |
Yes r5. Supposedly he’s a nightmare to deal with and has been nothing but a problem for almost everyone. He should have humbled himself. He should look at what happened to Alex Pettyfer

Yeah he’s absolutely fucked. It will take years for him to recover, if possible. Nate Parker never recovered.
Ironically, it was the same studio, Searchlight, which bought “Magazine Dreams” at Sundance, that bought “Birth of a Nation”, also at Sundance, and also planned an awards season release and then had a toxic property after the scandal went public.

Alex Pettyfer’s career is one of the oddest in Hollywood because he should have never “risen” in the first place. He has absolutely no talent.
He does, however, have the tenacity of a cockroach and enough off-scream charm to have managed to finagle a pretty steady career acting and directing low budget films.

He was doing recruiting commercials for the Army and the Army was the first to drop him from that. Call me naive but the p.r. people behind the Army of all things can easily find out if his domestic abuse allegations are true or not. For example, his lawyer released texts which made him look ghastly and promised that there would be video footage released which would exonerate him but that video footage has never appeared.
He allegedly choked his girlfriend while obviously being juiced to the gills on steroids.
Men who abuse women are cowards! Screw me too by now, it's more like just don't be a fucking coward to begin with damnit.

Offsite Link| by Anonymous | reply 39 | April 18, 2023 11:22 AM |
My assumption is that something else is going to drop soon that is even worse -- or at least, more specific -- than what we've seen so far. Majors was a Hollywood It Boy just a few months ago, being courted by all the major players. To be dumped by his own management team means they've calculated that his future is dim.

If an actor is being hyped in any way, he either convinced someone that he can make that someone a shit ton of money, or made that someone fall in love with him (or both at the same time). Actual acting talent gets you nowhere in Hollywood if you don't know how to sell yourself and hustle like the whoriest whore in the world, convincing people to take a chance and hire you.

You cannot work in Hollywood if you are uninsurable, unless a good Samaritan posts your bond a la Mel Gibson paying for Robert Downey Jr’s insurance out of his own salary for Air America.

I know this is "duh," but there's got to be a lot more coming out behind the scenes - either related to this case or other cases. All the stuff made public makes him look really bad, but I didn't think it was quite fatal - yet. That GF tweet (or text or other message, I don't remember) that was released thinking it would absolve him made him look worse. His "team" is pretty poor.

Are we going to get to see Magazine Dreams? Will they even release it on streaming?
| by Anonymous | reply 56 | April 19, 2023 1:30 AM |
He's not that important to the Marvel. I don't think they had millions riding on him personally, just the character, which can be played by many people since the character encompasses alternate versions. He was great in the Last Black Man in San Francisco. He did have a a lot going on and did become an "it" guy in the past year. But, I still think he hadn't reached universal "oh, that guy" yet - though Creed III and a Marvel movie make someone fairly visible.
If you were a PR person and/or career coach, what would you tell him to do at this point? Slink away and wait? Make some dramatic confession and pray for forgiveness? I know many people rightly don't think he should survive this if everything is true, but it's still interesting what advice people would give him to rehabilitate himself.
| by Anonymous | reply 57 | April 19, 2023 1:40 AM |
He was important. They cast him in a major role. Kang is a huge villain.
| by Anonymous | reply 58 | April 19, 2023 1:45 AM |
He can be recast successfully. I don't think people are invested in JM as Kang after one movie. It's not like he's Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark.
| by Anonymous | reply 59 | April 19, 2023 1:48 AM |
I personally doubt that whatever happened was HORRIBLE. I think it was bad, but I think his management and PR provided him the necessary face-saving strategies and he refused to do it. If you have someone who is unadvisable, they are a liability and beyond rehabilitation.
He’s not losing his career because of what he did, he’s losing his career because of what he didn’t do - follow his people’s advice.

Yeah judging by the rumors that came out about his behavior going all the way back to Yale it sounds like dude has some serious anger issues and he needs to get help but is probably refusing to see there's any issue, on his part.
I also wonder about the steroids thing - every man in a superhero role is very clearly on steroids these days, and he definitely was. How involved with that sort of thing do we think Marvel is? Do they outsource those decisions, or actively encourage it behind the scenes?
It's a shame because he has been very good in previous roles. Are we now going to lose all of the interesting artists who are kind of crazy? So many of our greatest actors and artists have been tapping into troubled histories and selves with their work. There's something in that spark that we want to look into. Need to. I don't know where you draw those lines though.

The mid credit scene of Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will make that pretty difficult. Every single version was played by Majors.
The only thing they can do is replace him with someone else without making it a plot device. Maybe even reshoot some of the scenes of Loki's first season and the latest Ant Man film with the new actor and show them in future Marvel projects, and let official press releases do the rest.
Apparently he was always a total dick even back in school, so blaming it on steroid abuse to get jacked for his roles doesn't work. Shame, I really liked him in Lovecraft Country.

Calling him getting dumped by his agency an overreaction is a bit premature. These Hollywood types, including Feigle running the Marvel franchise, know more details, and what may come out in a few weeks, than us. These guys wouldn't dump a golden goose who'd make them a shit ton of money just for choking his girlfriend. Not when DC still insists they have Ezra Miller's back.

Breaking news R86
Many people in Hollywood behave ABOMINABLY
Harvey Weinstein and Scott Rudin were tolerated for DECADES!
But they don’t have to be insured. Film actors have to be insured. Majors was probably given advice on how to repair the reputational damage so he could be insureable. Thats why he wasn’t dropped immediately after the incident. They people behind him are invested in him succeeding because he makes THEM money. Every opportunity JM has trickles down to them. Managers get 15%. If JM cannot work any more because he is uninsurable, then he’s of no use to them. They don’t give a shit about the victim.
