The Icy Cave (Japanese: 氷柱の空洞 Icicle Hollow) is a type of hideaway seen in the Grand Underground. It can only be accessed after the player obtains the Explorer Kit in Eterna City from the Underground Man, and features Pokémon that roam the cave freely, instead of being found in tall grass.
Geography
Icy Caves are snowy, ice pillar and rock filled caverns, containing small lakes. The water can be Surfed on to encounter Pokémon visible in the water. Some rocks and ice spikes are taller than the player, and must be navigated around.

With each additional badge earned by the player, the levels of wild Pokémon are increased.

Visible Encounters
After the player fulfills a particular objective during their adventure, another group of Pokémon are added to the pool of possible encounters. The spawn rates for certain types are influenced by the active "Statue Effect" applied by a player's Secret Base Statues.
Rare Spawns
Rare Spawns run concurrently to the existing encounter table, and use independent percentages for their rates.
