They look much better without them.
What do YOU think?

poodles give me the creeps

Poodles were hunting/retrieving dogs in Germany. Problem was their thick coats slowed them down in water but shaving their coats left them prone to sore joints from the exposure to cold water. So they would shave their coats but leave the fur on their hips, shoulders and joints. Hence the poodle haircut.

I agree, OP. They look cuter naturally.

Poodles have horrid mouths.

I love dogs, but poodles are just not my thing.
Dog bless them!

Well, r1, I regret to inform you that YOUR haircut makes you look like a FAT WHORE.

I think poodles without the fancy cuts are adorable…big, small or in between. But I don’t hate on the fancy ones.

As a kid I had a neighbour who had (adorable) poodle puppies. My brother's friend came over and he took one home. He promised he's never get it cut a la poodle cut. I only only saw the dog once as a full grown and he was cut. Looked awful.

Poodles are one breed that I simply can't stand.
They're just ugly dogs.
It doesn't matter how they're groomed, they will still be unpleasant to look at.
That poodle cut just embraces their obvious hideousness.

We used to give our black standard poodle a simple lamb cut. No shaving his body bald or those stupid lions mane type cuts.

A Standard Poodle is a great dog. I like them with just a flat cut. You poodle haters have probably never been around one.

R13, one of my favorite poodles, who belonged to a friend, was just as you described. A wonderful dog, with a warm, playful personality.

The poodle styling is Old School and Fabulous and High Camp. I love them.

Poodle cuts were actually one of the cuter haircuts of the 1950s!
For what that's worth.

I LOVE dogs, but I agree, the poodle "haircut" is just creepy! I don't find this breed very attractive in any case, but that haircut we used to see all the time growing up was just WRONG! Luckily, it's not as popular nowadays.

That poor dog in the middle. That's animal abuse and creepy.

Disgusting looking. And the owners who have this done to dogs are ridiculous and disgusting.

That is not a healthy haircut. Cuts that close promote sun and razor burn. Every-day cuts for airedales and poodles are simple close-cropped trims that don’t drip as much water everywhere they drink or play.
With those two breeds, keeping the feet trimmed, ears clean, and glands expressed are the best ways of keeping a clean, happy, less stinky puppy.
I have found poodles to be more timid than schnauzers, but gentler and more open to play.
