A completely automatic choice. A true Christmas classic vs. a kid goofin' with burglars. A Christmas Story gets my vote almost every time. I've enjoyed watching it year after year (often more than one during the holiday season).

Both have irritating elements when looked at with a jaundiced eye. When observed in the spirit in which they were made each overcomes its obstacles. Home alone is better crafted, and more tighly written but Chistmas Story seems a little warmer and simpler. A saw off really, but since this site requires a resolution I lean toward Home alone.

Home Alone is a very nice holiday movie for the family, but better than A Christmas Story? Not a chance. Look at what A Christmas Story had: a little brother who had not eaten voluntarily in over three years, a father who worked in profanity the way other artists might work in oils or clay, a conspiracy of irrational prejudice against Red Ryder and his peacemaker, the soft glow of electric sex gleaming in the window! It's a fudgin' masterpiece.

Both are great fun to watch over the holidays but Christmas Story is a better film altogether.

A Christmas Story, easily. I like Home Alone but I really cannot go ONE Christmas without watching A Christmas Story. It's just got so much heart and warmth and it just has so many classic moments and scenes. Both are nostalgic, hilarious and naturally charming movies but I would definitely say I like A Christmas Story better.

A CHRISTMAS STORY is one of the few films I wholly despise. HOME ALONE gets the nod by default.
