She was courtside at a Warriors game last month, dancing around with all the energy of someone half her age. She's amazing.

by Anonymousreply 3December 11, 2023 12:14 PM

She’s a bit full of herself for me.

by Anonymousreply 6December 11, 2023 12:33 PM

Her facial expression always looks like she just witnessed a murder.

by Anonymousreply 8December 11, 2023 12:46 PM

Which worked great on OZ, r8!

by Anonymousreply 9December 11, 2023 12:48 PM

Like some are famous for being famous, she is legend for being legend, going on 50 years now.

by Anonymousreply 14December 11, 2023 1:33 PM

[quote]Which worked great on OZ, [R8]!

Incidentally, I wanted to be her in this scene.

Chits Rivera, theys my favorite!

Rita was cute before all of that plastic surgery. I don't mean old age plastic surgery.

I sent her a bottle of Jean Nate and a nice blouse.

by Anonymousreply 19December 11, 2023 6:25 PM

Rita had something in common with our DL fave Lena Horne:

How her marriage looked to others was completely different from the reality. In other words, mostly a sham.

Rita married a doctor who later became her manager. He was very nice, but she was never in love with him, she only wanted someone to "take care" of her. Their marriage was a failure and she contemplated leaving many times. Rita said she was relived when her husband died. (PBS American Masters)

by Anonymousreply 20December 11, 2023 10:01 PM

Rita Moreno a gay? Not really.

by Anonymousreply 21December 11, 2023 11:24 PM

Oooops sorry should read: "Rita Moreno a gay icon? Not really."

by Anonymousreply 22December 11, 2023 11:24 PM

Maybe she was gay with Lena ; )

by Anonymousreply 23December 11, 2023 11:27 PM

[quote]"Rita Moreno a gay icon? Not really."

True. Chita on the other hand...

by Anonymousreply 24December 11, 2023 11:44 PM

Gay Icon doesn't mean she's gay, R24.

by Anonymousreply 25December 12, 2023 12:28 AM

Where did I say it did, r25?

by Anonymousreply 26December 12, 2023 12:30 AM

I don't like how she used to talk shit about Natalie Wood.

She always seemed so bitter about her.

by Anonymousreply 27December 12, 2023 12:35 AM

She doesn’t look 92 at all. Her Afro-Latin roots.

by Anonymousreply 28December 12, 2023 12:41 AM

We’ll always have Electric Company

“Hey, you guys!”

And then, there was “The Ritz”.

by Anonymousreply 29December 12, 2023 12:48 AM

SO? R27, you’re such a snowflake.

by Anonymousreply 30December 12, 2023 12:52 AM

In light of recent events, Doroshee should have listened to me a long time ago and given the Palestinians Greenland.

by Anonymousreply 31December 12, 2023 1:44 AM

Christ, you DL queens are vicious. Rita is wonderful.

by Anonymousreply 32December 12, 2023 2:29 AM

[quote]In light of recent events, Doroshee should have listened to me a long time ago and given the Palestinians Greenland.

LOL! I forgot she was in the worst Golden Girls episode.

[quote]True. Chita on the other hand...

Chita yes. Rita, no.

by Anonymousreply 34December 12, 2023 3:00 AM

Chita’s nose job is so much worse than Rita’s.

by Anonymousreply 35December 12, 2023 8:43 AM

I really liked her on the One Day At a Time reboot.

I was one of the seventeen people who watched that.

by Anonymousreply 36December 12, 2023 2:50 PM

R35. That may be, but Chita’s talent is so much greater than Rita’s. Chita always seems about the welfare of the show and her fellow performers (Donald O’Connor being the only person I’ve ever heard her speak ill of). Rita always seems to be about Rita. Say what you will about Chita’s singing voice (I happen to like), she never got dubbed on her way to an undeserved Oscar.

by Anonymousreply 37December 13, 2023 2:41 AM

How pathetic for Chita that she always gets dragged into a conversation about Rita. And Chita was never even nominated for an Oscar, an Emmy or a Grammy, poor thing.

by Anonymousreply 38December 13, 2023 3:27 AM

That bitch can suck the last deop of leche from my left tit!

by Anonymousreply 39December 13, 2023 3:31 AM

“…those fooking Trapp kids” - Google Gomez. The Ritz . ‘Nuff said!!!

by Anonymousreply 40December 13, 2023 3:40 AM

I liked Rita's scene in Carnal Knowledge with Nicholson.

What’s hard to believe now is that the so-called teenagers from the movie West side story 1961 are now in their 90s – yikes!

by Anonymousreply 43December 13, 2023 2:33 PM

R38. Well, given that she made 2 movies (1 a cameo), only did a TV series briefly, and mainly recorded cast albums (a few ones of standards, pretty early in her career), it wouldn’t be logical to think she would be an EGOT. She did, however, receive the Tonys (two competitive, both LEADING actress in a musical, as well as seven additional Tony nominations—and did her own singing. Also, didn’t act like an ungrateful bitch when she accepted her Tony. And didn’t announce in her memoir that she was glad when her husband died. There’s that.

by Anonymousreply 44December 13, 2023 4:58 PM

Why does everyone feel the need to put down Rita in order to praise Chita. I mean, not everyone, just DL'ers but that's what so pathetic. Chita's career has been totally overshadowed by Rita and it galls certain of her fans. As for her in TV and movies, there's a very specific reason why she never succeeded in those fields. Her face is best appreciated from the last row of the balcony. Chita's performance in Sweet Charity was especially sad because she was only in her 30s yet she looked like she was in her 50s. I will give her this: There are very few female performers who can turn any role into a villainess simply by how bad she looks.

by Anonymousreply 45December 13, 2023 5:42 PM

Sally Struthers claims she was a royal cunt to her while doing the Odd Couple on the stage together.

Sounds like Rita doesn’t play nicely with other women.

by Anonymousreply 46December 13, 2023 10:38 PM

Sally Struthers is beneath Rita!

by Anonymousreply 47December 13, 2023 11:06 PM

There's also the story of when Moreno and Madeline Kahn did She Loves Me. Madeline might have been having her problems at the time (1977) but she was apparently very rude to a reporter. Moreno grabbed her, took her to a private location and told her that she can never ever be rude to a reporter, especially when they're there to publicize the show. I guess Madeline didn't listen because her next show was On The Twentieth Century and we all know how that turned out. BTW, Rita was not at all shy about going on the Atlantis Cruises and she noted what an asshole Quentin Crisp was. Apparently, on the cruise he was even telling people that AIDS was just a fad.

by Anonymousreply 49December 14, 2023 12:03 AM

[quote]And didn’t announce in her memoir that she was glad when her husband died. There’s that.

R44, staying in a loveless/sexless marriage for as long as Rita did, I call that comment remarkable restraint, R44.

Rita has two strikes against her;

1)Her hatred of Natalie who gives a very wonderful performance in WSS. She never ceases to trash her because she was not a Puerto Rican. I thought it was called acting. Natalie's final scene is magnificent. Rita has nothing but jealousy because she couldn't be half the beloved star Natalie was.

She never ever complains about George Chakiris who was Greek. What the fuck is up with her hypocrisy?

2) On the WSS soundtrack she had in the more difficult sections to be dubbed by both Betty Wand and Marnie Nixon.

Chita Rivera who was not known as a singer sang the entire role herself 8 times a week for a year and probably more. Rita's arrogance is a bit much.

If I separate her as a person I still enjoy her enormously as a performer.

by Anonymousreply 53December 15, 2023 9:25 AM

Rita's arrogance is what makes her a Gay Icon, bub.

by Anonymousreply 54December 15, 2023 1:20 PM

R53 3 strikes against her; her 45 year marriage to Dr. Gordon. He was no Brando.

Dr. Leonard Isadore Gordon(June 18, 1965 - June 30, 2010) (his death, 1 child)

by Anonymousreply 55December 15, 2023 7:35 PM
