With the Christmas season this year came lots of the Zoom specials we've all come to know, with casts from your favorite shows and movies getting together to answer questions, do table reads, and more, in order to keep entertaining despite the pandemic. Happiest Season, one of Hulu's most popular offerings this year, is an LGBTQ+ rom-com that celebrates love in the most robust way possible.

In the last decade, and especially the last three years or so, we've seen an influx of openly gay characters woven into the mesh of some of our most beloved shows and movies, but Happiest Season might be the first to focus on an openly gay platform that gives equality to the LGBTQ+ community.

Clea Duvall, who co-wrote and directed Hulu's popular Happiest Season moderated for a SAG-sponsored question-and-answer session with the cast, they all seemed equally touched by how many people the movie had reached, and glad to have been part of it.

The best summary of the way they all felt came when Duvall asked what it meant to the cast to be part of something that's received such an enthusiastic response from viewers. 

Aubrey Plaza replied, "This year has been so weird and I think everyone...It was like a big exhale when it came out. The fact that it was the first gay Christmas rom-com mainstream movie, I mean it's about time...and it all came together is a great way."

Daniel Levy, who also stars in the film, put it like this. "I think when you put something out there that is so well-intentioned and represents a cross-section of life that a lot of people don't get to see on screen, you embolden people to feel more comfortable in their own skin, more passionate about who they are, and more inspired about who they want to be."

While Happiest Season has made massive public impact, it was clear from the intense joy and fun the cast talked about having while filming the movie that it had just as much impact on the actors who were in it.
